Thaakirah and Yusuf wedding 8 & 9 August 2015

“So there’ll be about 800 people at my wedding” said smiling Thaakirah, “Did you say 800”? asked as surprised Jurgen! “Yip, just an average sized Muslim wedding” answered Thaakirah, now with an even bigger grin on her face. And what an amazing weekend it turned out to be. It started with a beautiful wedding ceremony held at the Bosmont Mosque followed by the two families hosting their respective families and friends at two different halls. And continued on Sunday with the full compliment of 800 excited guests celebrating an amazing reception at Diamond 4 Estate in Muldersdrift. May you have a long happy marriage filled with laughter and fun.

So imagine being asked to photograph a wedding on the banks of the Zambezi River just up from Vic Falls. The ceremony takes place under the leafy canopy of a large tree and the couple gets married on a termite mound with the sun setting behind them over the vast expanses of the Zambezi River. Sounds incredible. But then sometimes the gods can be cruel. On the wedding day it rained! And rained, and rained, and rained. Shoes were swopped for gum boots, fancy hats for umbrellas. The mud was everywhere and the road accessible only to 4×4’s. But thats when love and character take over. And never mind the rain and thickly overcast skies, the spirit prevailed. What a beautiful wedding it was.
